COMPANY HISTORY
Rutjens Construction, Inc. is a family owned business that began in 1980 by brothers Tom and Don Rutjens out of Tilden, Nebraska. Both were working the day shift at a steel mill in Norfolk NE, after their day shift they started to work on irrigation equipment and burying pipe.
In 1982 they bought a lot and building in Tilden, and in July of 1983 they had about half a dozen guys working for them. Having too much to do, Tom and Don decided to quit their jobs at the mill and go full time into the construction business.
Since then, other family members became involved in the business. Don’s sons, Travis and Alan, and Tom’s sons, Joe, David and Adam, along with Connie, who is Tom’s wife, and Laura, Don's wife are all a major part of the company.
Today, Rutjens Construction, Inc. has more the 70+ employees and concentrates on public and private underground utilities projects in the state of Nebraska. In 2008 they expanded their company by building a 3500 sq foot office that has a 15,000 sq foot shop attached to it. Then, in 2006 they purchased the concrete company Pollock Redi Mix out of Ewing, NE and in 2009 they bought Elkhorn Valley Equipment in Tilden, NE, which specializes in Reinke Irrigation Systems and GSI Grain Bins.
Rutjens Construction, Inc. is also a dealer for Sentinel Buildings. Some of their work includes Tilden Fire and Rescue and Elkhorn Valley Equipment, along with other personal workshops and garages.
